SLRP Hosts First Vicariate Lay Council Meeting

Last Saturday, April 26, 2014, the first Lay Council Meeting of the Vicariate of San Isidro Labrador convened at the SLRP Formation Center upon the invitation of Fr. Juan Bosco “JB” P. Abellana, parish priest of SLRP and Vicar Forane.  Forty-three representatives from six out of the seven parishes of the vicariate attended. (Pls. refer to Attachment) The seven parishes are:  Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, Our Lady of Consolation Parish, Sanctuario de San Vicente de Paul, San Isidro Labrador Parish, St. Joseph Parish, The Our Father Parish and San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish.

The meeting opened with a prayer by Ate Lina Feliciano, PPC Chair followed by welcome remarks by Kuya Peter Tamayo, PPC Asst. Chair.  Ate Josie Cruz, Worship Coordinator acted as emcee/moderator.

After a brief introduction by the officers of each parish, Fr. JB presided over the meeting.  He stated that with the launching of the Year of the Laity, it is but timely that the servant leaders of the various parishes of the vicariate get to know one another, bond together so that everyone can work together effectively and allow benchmarking of activities of the parishes as well.

Ate Josie introduced a game to encourage everyone to get acquainted with one another.

The group recognized the importance of conducting meetings on a regular basis to maintain communication and coordination. It was also requested that a directory of the PPC Officers be provided for this purpose. It was finally agreed that monthly meetings of the PPC heads will be convened to discuss the various concerns of the vicariate.  A general assembly will be held quarterly with the hosting to be rotated among the member parishes.  The next general assembly will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 with St. Joseph Parish as host.

Ate Josie also mentioned that the results of the meeting and attendance will be posted at the SLRP website www.slrp-qc.com and encouraged everyone to visit the website.

Everyone was also invited to attend the talk on Environmental Stewardship of Creation by Mr. Yeb Saño, Commissioner on Climate Change, on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.  at SLRP. 

The meeting ended with a closing prayer by Ate Bel Geronimo, PPC Secretary and blessing by Fr. JB.
